Wainwright Encore
Entertainment Society
See you all for the 2017 - 2018 Season

A little History...

Encore was formed in 1986 - 1987.  It grew out of the original Band Boosters Group, to become a registered non-profit society dedicated to bringing a variety of high quality entertainment to Wainwright and District. The society is coordinated and administered by a group of volunteers interested in the performing arts.

Martin Kerr from Edmonton, Alberta

If it all falls to pieces in the next few months, Martin Kerr figures he can just go back to busking.

For close to a decade, the Edmonton-based singer-songwriter has made a good living performing at farmers’ markets and house concerts, cranking out covers and selling CDs from his guitar case. A stint on Canadian Idol back in 2008 hadn’t boosted Kerr’s career in the way he’d hoped, and he had found a small, cosy position for himself in the local scene.

That all began to change in May of this year when Kerr quite unexpectedly sold out the 1,700-seat Winspear Centre, a week after he was announced as a performer at the Edmonton Folk Fest and added as the opening act for Sarah McLachlan’s Canada Day show at Rogers Place. Quite a distance from singing Hallelujah to people shopping for vegetables and handmade soap.
